How to deactivate or delete Instagram account
It happens a lot that someone would like to deactivate their Instagram account. This might be due to privacy or security reason, or the person just doesn’t like Instagram no more and wants to make sure their data is not stored anywhere on Instagram servers. Or maybe we just spend so much on social media and need to have a break. Below you can find steps how to deactivate your account temporarily or delete it permanently.

Temporarily deactivate your Instagram account from Accounts Center
- Log into the Instagram account you’d like to deactivate.
- Click More in the bottom left, then click Settings.
- Click Accounts Center, then click Personal details.
- Click Account ownership and control, then click Deactivation or deletion.
- Click the account you’d like to temporarily deactivate.
- Click Deactivate account, then click Continue.
- Re-enter your password and click Continue.
- Select the reason to deactivate account, then click Continue.
- Click Deactivate account.
Note: You may not be able to deactivate your account from Accounts Center at this time.
To permanently delete your account from Accounts Center:
- Click More in the bottom left, then click Settings.
- Click Accounts Center, then click Personal details.
- Click Account ownership and control, then click Deactivation or deletion.
- Click the account you’d like to permanently delete.
- Click Delete account, then click Continue.
Note: You may not be able to delete your account from Accounts Center at this time.
After your account is deleted, you can sign up again with the same username or add that username to another account as long as it hasn’t been taken by a new person on Instagram.
